Protecting the Environment

Protecting and restoring the Chesapeake Bay as well as our other waterways is one of my top concerns. We need to ensure that we’re investing in restoring oyster habitats, stemming harmful stormwater runoff, and holding polluters accountable. Cleaner waterways lead to cleaner habitats for Bay creatures, including blue crabs. Supporting Bay restoration efforts in effect helps support Maryland’s watermen and seafood industry.

Maryland’s greatest natural resource is indeed its abundant waterways, but those thousands of miles of coastlines mean that our state is strongly at risk of the effects of rising sea levels. More can and should be done to fight against climate change by promoting smarter energy solutions and cleaner mass transit.

Any sound environmental policy must also consider how low-income communities and communities of color have been made especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of climate change and pollution. These communities are central in the discussion of environmental issues, and Maryland should ensure that environmental policies give all communities a healthy environment where they can thrive. I support the expansion of the urban tree canopy as well as other initiatives to protect communities facing greater environmental and health risks.

My family chose to live here because of our love for the beautiful surroundings. I will work to ensure the preservation of our natural areas for the enjoyment of generations to come.

I am very proud to have been endorsed by the following environmental groups: Maryland League of Conservation Voters and Sierra Club.
