Dawn D. Gile is an independently minded leader who represents more than 130,000 residents as the State Senator for Maryland’s 33rd District. Elected to the Senate in 2022, Dawn serves on the Senate Finance Committee and chairs the Anne Arundel County Senate Delegation. Her work on the Finance Committee includes issues that directly affect Maryland families and businesses, including health care, insurance, labor and employment, financial services, and consumer protection.

Since taking office, Dawn has focused on the issues that matter most to the people she represents: making life more affordable, strengthening our public schools, and protecting the quality of life in our communities.

Dawn has worked across party lines to tackle difficult issues and get results. She has fought to make life more affordable for working families and seniors, demanded greater accountability from utilities, and worked to strengthen Maryland’s public schools and better protect children. She has also expanded access to health care and opioid treatment, strengthened consumer and data privacy protections, supported veterans and military families, and worked to protect the Chesapeake Bay.

Her work in Annapolis is matched by a focus on delivering results at home. Dawn has helped secure millions of dollars for local priorities, including schools and libraries, behavioral health services, parks and recreational facilities, veterans and community organizations, and projects that strengthen the communities she represents.

Dawn ran for office because she believed the people of her community deserved an effective voice in Annapolis. She approaches each issue on its merits, listens to the people she represents, and focuses on finding practical solutions that make a difference in their lives.

An accomplished attorney, nonprofit leader, and nationally recognized military family advocate, Dawn has spent her career bringing people together to solve problems. As an attorney, she advises businesses on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, bringing real-world experience to her work in the Senate.

Dawn’s commitment to military families is deeply personal. Her husband served more than 24 years on active duty in the U.S. Army, and their family experienced firsthand the demands of deployments, long separations, and military life. While building her legal career and raising their three daughters, often while her husband was away on deployments and military assignments, Dawn became an advocate for military families, eventually serving as president of the Military Spouse JD Network. Her work focused on expanding employment opportunities for military spouses and providing pro bono legal services to Gold Star families, veteran caregivers, and veteran entrepreneurs. She has continued that advocacy in the Senate, where her work on behalf of servicemembers, veterans, and their families has earned recognition from the Maryland Military Coalition.

Dawn earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rockford University and her juris doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

A longtime Maryland resident, Dawn is deeply invested in the community she and her family call home. Before her election to the Senate, she was active in her children’s public schools and PTA and regularly helped organize neighborhood and community activities. Today, she remains a familiar presence throughout District 33, listening to residents and working to ensure they have an accessible and responsive voice in state government.

Dawn and her husband are raising their three daughters in the community they are proud to call home. They love spending time together, and some of their family’s happiest days are spent swimming in the Severn River.
